Internet Exposure Webmail Help

This mail client should be fairly intuitive if you've used any other web-based email clients before. We've tried to keep it simple, but keep throwing more features at it, which is a mix good and bad.

Orientation

Most of the navigation is done with icons on the various pages. Here is an explanation of what each icon does.

  1. inbox The home icon brings you back to your inbox.
  2. compose The mail icon next to your home is to compose a new message.
  3. main preferences The wrench icon brings you to the preferences pages, the preferences icons break down such:
    1. main preferences Wrench, main preferences. This is the preferences that control how the webmail system works. Most of the defaults here should be fine. If there are any changes that look like you would want to make, feel free.
    2. mail preferences Envelope, mail preferences. This is where you control how your mail is addressed. It is pretty important that you make sure that your "Real Name" is diplayed correctly. We have attempted to import the names into the system but some of them are known to not be right. Just change this to the correct value. You can also make exceptions for all the email addresses that you have for each "Real Name", "Signature", "Reply To".
    3. security preferences Lock, security preferences. This is where you control the security of the mail system. I would just leave all these where they are.
    4. folder preferences Folder, folder preferences. This is where you control your folders. Currently most people just have inbox, sent, and trash folders. You have the ability to create folders here if you would like, and move emails into the folders you create. One thing to keep in mind is that the folders that you create here will only be available though the webmail interface and IMAP. Most Internet Exposure clients are set up to use POP3, if this is the case then your email program, on your computer, will only be able to retrieve email from your inbox.
  4. logout The last icon at the top is the on/off switch. This is where you click to logout. You can also use the logout link at the bottom of the page.

When you are reading an email there are a few new icons to explain:

  1. previous message This icon will change you to the previous email in your inbox.
  2. next messageThis icon will change you to the next email in your inbox.
  3. replyIf you click on this icon you will start a reply email to this sender. This icon is also found in your inbox under the column "actions", it does the same thing there as well.
  4. forward When you click on this icon you start a forward of this email to a new recipient. This icon is also found in your inbox under the column "actions", it does the same thing there as well.
  5. delete Clicking this icon will cause this email to be sent to the trash folder. This icon is also found in your inbox under the column "actions", it does the same thing there as well.
  6. You can also move the emails around to different folders with the "Move To:" function.

Functionality
  • You cannot delete or rename the 'INBOX', 'Sent', or 'Trash' folders, they are used by the mail system.

FAQ
  • What does "Flush" do in mail account settings?
It forgets all of the messages we've seen for that account, which will force them to download again.

  • IMAP folders don't work?
Nope, IMAP works just like a POP3 server right now.

  • Can the text line-wrap when reading a message?
If you have the Preserve Formatting setting enabled, the message will display exactly as it was; if there were no linebreaks in the original, they'll not be there in your display. If you disable this setting, your web browser will line wrap for you, but other formatting (eg. leading whitespace on a line) will not display correctly.

  • I can't login, it's failing the HTTP_REFERER check.
This has been seen when using Norton Personal Firewall on a windows machine. You can disable this feature of Norton's by deselecting Enable Browser Privacy under Customize Privacy Settings, which will of course lessen the effectiveness of Norton's protection. Alternatively, you can disable the HTTP_REFERER check under the security preferences in Internet Exposure Webmail, which will lessen the security of your account. You choose.
