Fargo Electronics, located in Eden Prairie Minnesota, manufactures identity card issuance systems, including secure ID card printer/ encoders, materials and software. We have been a vendor of Fargo Electronics for over 5 years. The Fargo Electronics partner site exists to deliver marketing material and support options to companies that resell Fargo manufactured products.
Internet Exposure worked with Fargo Electronics and their partners to
conduct a usability survey. The feedback gained from the survey was used to
prioritize the layout of content. The website works by granting or limiting
content to the logged in user based on level access. The modular layout of
the site is changed based on the user level. The partner site offers a wide
variety of access-controlled dynamic content.
See it in action:
The partner site offers over 1,500 pieces of marketing collateral and hundreds of technical support documentation. iE was charged with presenting the content two distinct ways - categorically and by product line. To meet this challenge we created a tabbed category layout with additional sub-tier categories. All categories and sub categories are customizable from the robust back end admin tool. Users can also drill into a specific product line to view the information that way.
The original partner site was created 4 years ago - which is about 50 in Internet years. We had to modernize the site yet leverage legacy Admin tools. We used The Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI) to update the layout of the site. This did not prevent us from using the existing ASP code base. In the end we were able to update the existing admin tools that run the legacy application this allowed for a smoother transition to the updated site and led to little to no retraining of Fargo employees.
