The HID Special Quote tool is an online application that is an internal tool that allows HID's global network of sales representatives to create, seek approval for, and track special quotes. Special Quotes are used to give discounted pricing to some of their customers.
The creation of a Special Quote is broken up into three sections: Quote Information, Item Details and Special Quote Summary. At any step of the process the user can save the current work and come back to a draft version of the special quote.

The first section, Quote Information, contains customer information, expiration and response dates, currency, region information and general notes. For ease of use the tool has auto-populated as much of the information as possible, based on the logged in users. An example of this would be currency. The currency is dictated by the users region.
The second portion of the tool, Item Details, allows HID employees to lookup HID product information. This page contains an auto complete field that begins to suggest results after three characters have been entered. Once a user has selected an item they can then add Quantity, Standard Discount and Special Discounts to the project. The page then calculates all possible discounts from discount off of MSRP to the net extra discounted points off of MSRP.

The third page, Special Quote Summary, neatly summarizes all of the previous information and the notifications that are to be sent out. Various notifications are added to the special quote based on the user creating the special quote, the region, and total discount. The quote can have anywhere from one to five different people receiving either special quote awareness notification emails or approval emails.
Data portability was also a large consideration for this tool. HID admins are allowed to export special quote data from the database as a spreadsheet. They can also upload item and customer files to the system as both sets of data change frequently on their main business system.
